If you’ve ever dreamed of casting off your worldly possessions and traveling to your heart’s content, this story about two intrepid seniors will inspire you no matter your age.
Michael and Debbie Campbell felt they had one more adventure in them before considering retirement in the traditional sense, so they filled two rolling duffel bags with life’s essentials (including their own pillows) and hit the road. Four years later, having sold their home in Seattle, their “Senior Nomad” lifestyle has no end in sight.
Ride along as they share tales of living full-time in Airbnbs in over 50 countries and pay tribute to the many hosts who not only helped them live daily life, but also offered unique opportunities to experience their cities. From the barber’s chair in Dublin and the dentist’s chair in Split, to a wild motorcycle ride in Athens, a peek behind the Soviet Curtain in Transnistria, and the demise of a chicken for dinner in Marrakech, hosts made the Campbell’s dream of adventure come true.Discover how Debbie and Michael find their next Airbnb, how they get there, and the many ways they enjoy their new city just as the locals do. Learn their tips and tricks for using Airbnb and how they get the most out of each stay, all while spending little more than they would have spent settled into their rocking chairs in Seattle.

Your Keys Our Home The Senior Nomads Incredible Airbnb Journey eBook Debbie and Michael Campbell Reviews
I enjoyed this book by Debbie and Michael Campbell, but I expected more. Somehow I expected it to be more organized on how to find Airbnb homes in which to stay, how to fill out a profile to make it appealing, and perhaps some kind of pricing included. The stories were fun and it was entertaining, it's just that I wanted more How far ahead does one book a house? What is the tax involved now? How much is the cleaning fee? A percentage of the price? Do you write to everyone in English? What about a checklist, as in 1, 2, 3, and 4.
Do you ask to use the car? What does one do about utilities? Are they included? How do you send payment?
These people are definitely likable enough and they surely give an option for traveling comfortably.
I have followed Debbie and Michael's adventure for three years. I've been fascinated with their journey-and this book brings it all together in an enlightening, informative, entertaining and inspiring way!! They didn't know what they didn't know when they started. But with their infectious humor and engaging personalities, sense of adventure, intelligence, hard work, smarts and love for life and each other, they have taken us all on the journey of a life time! They share all the practical tips from what they have learned "on the job". They are not tourists-they are living as they would at home in Seattle....but they're doing it one Airbnb at a time!. This book inspires the reader to believe they can live their dream-no matter what it is. They provide valuable information on their Airbnb experiences for both the traveler and the host. It's insightful, practical, engaging and just plain fun!
I enjoyed the book and as a permanent traveler always like to read about the experiences of others. Living in short-term rentals is a premise I’m well versed in since my husband I have lived on the road with no permanent base for 7 years. I was hopeful I’d discover a few hints beyond Airbnb (or even more details within the best practices of using Airbnb) but this book is more for the novice user.
Some of the life-style advice is spot on (you need to have a great marriage before you do this, the fact that you are living a regular life on the road—not a never-ending vacation). It’s certainly not for everyone.
I would have loved a bit more of a well rounded story. Exactly how far in advance do they book. Do they ever find a city is full or overly expensive and consequently change course (ex. I once tried to go to Austin without realizing it was during SXSW. I had to change plans.) At what point do they book the plane/train tickets.
As written, it’s basically a treatise on Airbnb (how to be a good host, how to be a good guest). If that’s what you’re looking for, it will serve nicely. I was hoping for more.
I heard about this couple while listening to the audio version of The Airbnb Story.
As Michael and Debbie Campbell prepared to retire their daughter encouraged them to see the countries on their dream list of places to visit.
They didn't think they could afford to do that but their daughter thought they could, using the inexpensive means of Airbnb. This book is the proof they made that happen.
So far they've visited 152 cities in 50 countries and stayed in 110 different homes. In fact, I emailed the couple and found them in Zanzibar!
This fun read tells how they selected which Airbnb's to stay in, and describes the adventures of finding the places in real life. They tell about the kind owners who took greeted them in the various countries. They give tips for being a good guest and a good host.
For those with wanderlust, this is a highly entertaining and informative book.
Debbie and Michael Campbell have written a comprehensive book of their Airbnb experiences worldwide, with details and recommendations that can benefit both travelers and renters.
Dubbed "the Senior Nomads," this young-at-heart couple have spent the majority of the past few years traveling from country to country, relying entirely on Airbnb to reserve their housing in city after city. Their descriptions of the entire process are compelling for anyone flirting with their first Airbnb stay, and insights into ingredients that make lodgings successful will appeal to those renters seeking to maximize their occupancy.
Top-to-bottom, "Your Keys.." is an excellent read and just might ignite the latent travel-bug in all of us. Five stars!
