After Life Lessons is an emotional journey of grief and tentative romance in a world infested with zombies.

I am not really a romance fan however this was a delicious romp with not too much gore and just enough "zombie" to make it exciting and add the flavor of life after apocalypse. I fell in love with the characters right away- they are contemporary and believable and I love that Song is a part of this story. Would love to read more about their lives and very pleased to have this ending as it did...I would recommend this to young adult or mature teen readers (however there is some sex.) If you want zombie gore as the main event this isn't it but if you are interested in a quick read about human coping, survival, perseverance of the human spirit and Love, you will enjoy this book. Not to worry, no characters you grow to love and then have killed off horribly a la "Walking Dead" series.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
After Life Lessons is a story about a young woman's personal journey in a zombie infested world. The book is by no means a gore-filled zombie fest, but rather focuses on how one survivor maintains their humanity and rediscovers love in such a world. The zombies are almost an after thought and don't really play a major role until the latter part of the book.
As far as the writing goes, it was pretty well written and a quick read. The author did a fair job in character development of the main character, but this was somewhat lacking with the other characters. The main character is this beautiful, loving person with a big heart who is willing to make sacrifices for those she's close to. You really see this in her interactions with the child she's taken under her care, a child who isn't even her biological child.
I felt like there were some parts of the story that were a little hard to wrap my head around in terms of the characters and their interactions. For example, every character the main character came across they seem to just automatically connect with. I would find it really hard to believe that this would be the case in a world torn apart by a zombie pandemic. People would be more careful and less trusting of strangers, especially if they're surviving with children. This also made the love story a little less believable. It came across at first as characters just using each other for sex and the next thing a reader knows, bam, they're in love.
If you're in the mood for a story about finding love in a zombie infested world, then this story should deliver what you're looking for. Just don't go into it anticipating a lot of gore and violence and epic battles with the undead.

This is my first Zombie book and I wasn't sure at first but as I'm friends with one of the authors I still wanted to help her out. I'm glad I did. Both of these authors know how to build a world which transports the reader. The book is chilling and warming at the same time. It even made this Heartless B's eyes tingle. I can't wait to read more from both of these amazing authors.
So, coming into this book I was extremely excited. I love zombie books, I love romances... Why not combine the two?! Who wouldn't want to fall in love while evading a mass of dead people trying to devour your face? This just seemed perfect for me!
This book just wasn't meant for me though. It was close to the opposite of what I expected. I expected a zombie thrill-a-thon with a bit of love, but instead it's a romance with zombies thrown into the mix. I just found this disappointing, I really was in the mood for face-eating.
Although this book just wasn't my style, I feel that the author did a fantastic job writing relatable and believable emotions. Each of our main characters had plenty of reasons to remain unattached, but eventually fell in love, which was a nice touch since instant love is really annoying. =P
Overall, I think that it may be beneficial to alter the blurb a bit to give the readers a better idea of what to expect. As it is written, I expected a more thrilling ride instead of a sweet story (with zombies) =P
